19 May 2019 Very early in the morning, you arrive in Leh, the capital of Ladakh, known as "Little Tibet," at 3,500 metres altitude in the Indian Himalaya. The flight over the Himalaya is spectacular! DAY 2: Leh, Phyang, Spituk, Thiksey, Leh (20 km by road)

20 May 2019 On this first day at the edge of the Himalaya, we begin our discovery of Ladakh with visits to Indo-Tibetan Buddhist monasteries. We head to Phyang Monastery, perched high on a hill offering a magnificent view of the valley carpeted with barley fields. The entrance to this imposing monastery is flanked by two chortens. Founded in the 16th century, it belongs to the Drigungpa order. This first venture into the Himalayan mountains is deeply inspiring! We continue to Spituk Monastery, built in the 15th century. It is one of the most influential monasteries of the Yellow Hats, the Gelugpa sect. We finish with a visit to Thiksey Monastery, which resembles the Potala of the Forbidden City of Lhasa in Tibet. It houses a magnificent statue of the Buddha of the future! At the end of the day, we visit a traditional doctor known as an "amchi," who practises the Tibetan medical tradition combining science, philosophy, religion and art. The amchi uses thousands of medicinal plants to restore balance between body and mind. Overnight in Leh.

Goat and yak herders, they migrate each summer to Korzok and move slowly towards the high valleys of Rupshu in search of the best pastures for their animals. They will invite us to visit them under their "rebo," the traditional yak-hair tent, to drink salted butter tea. In the afternoon, a meditative walk lets us witness this remarkable beauty that moves us deeply. Overlooking Tso Moriri lake, the view from this spot is simply incredible! Return to camp. Overnight in Tso Moriri.

Along the way, we stop at the school for the Tibetan nomads set between two mountains (if the pupils are not yet on their summer holidays). We cross two high-altitude passes before descending into narrow gorges. We set down our prayer intentions by raising a prayer flag so that the gods may grant our wishes. Tso Kar is magical thanks to the nomads who have left their mark on the religious character of the place: a lone white chorten near the camp, or prayer flags strung across makeshift poles. We continue our journey to Leh. Arrival and overnight in Leh.
